Foley's Tree Service - Storm Damage Clean up

Tree Removal

When it becomes necessary to completely remove a tree, the method used depends on the condition of the tree, its surroundings, and accessibility.

Very small trees might be easily removed by dropping the whole tree at once, while other trees need more technical expertise.  Some trees are climbed by our experienced climber, and taken down piece by piece through the use of ropes.

Other trees require the use of our bucket truck.  Very difficult trees may require the use of a crane. Whichever method is used, our skilled staff will take care to safely remove the trees with the least amount of disturbance to the surrounding area.

Trees are pruned for two main reasons. The more obvious one is to remove dead wood from an otherwise healthy tree. Deadwood pruning not only removes potential hazards, but also eliminates a path for disease to enter the tree.

The second reason may not be obvious, but is one of the most important measures you can take to help assure your tree has a long and healthy life. This “livewood” pruning is necessary to maintain a healthy tree by assuring the tree gets adequate sunlight and is strong enough to fight any diseases.

We will prune to remove touching or crossed branches, branches that are competing to be the main leader, or any branches that are directly above or below another branch. Sometimes it is also necessary to prune live hazardous branches, or branches that cause an interference with other objects in the environment, such as vehicles, buildings, etc. Although this is not done for the health of the tree, we try to prune so both the tree and the customer are benefited.

Crown Thinning

In crown thinning, we selectively remove branches from the tree’s crown to increase light and air movement through the tree.

It does not alter the shape or height of the tree, but allows in more air and light to stimulate the growth of interior foliage and improve the strength of the limbs. Thinning also reduces the effect of high wind on the crown, and reduces the weight of heavy branches.

In addition to being healthy for the tree, crown thinning also improves the tree’s structural beauty, and opens the ground area beneath the tree to more light.

Stump Grinding

Grinding a tree stump removes the tree's stump and surface roots below grade, producing grindings as a waste product. The customer has the option of cleaning up the grindings, or hiring us to do the clean-up. Our clean-up can include removal of grindings, with optional filling in with topsoil, and re-seeding the area. Whether you cut the trees or we did, we are happy to take care of your stump grinding needs.

Storm Damage Clean-up

Storms can cause major damage to your trees and buildings any time of the year. Storm damage clean-up ranges from emergency removal of a tree from the roof your home to clearing off your driveway blocked by broken branches to pruning hanging branches to minimize further damage.

When customers call following a storm, we try to take care of the most urgent needs first, and will do our best to help with any damaged trees on your property, including take-downs, removal of downed limbs, and hauling or chipping the debris.

Lot Clearing

When trees need to be removed from a large area for construction of buildings, installation of a septic system, or any other purpose, call us for a free on-site consultation of which trees need to be removed and which ones can potentially be saved.  We're happy to come and give you an estimate based on your particular needs.  We will also recommend the type of stump removal that will best work for your situation.

Some trees need a little help in reducing damage from high winds and snow and ice loads.

Cabling means installing supports to weak and potentially dangerous limbs to reduce the risk of tree failure. This is done by connecting two or more branches, and then maintaining those supports through annual inspection and adjustment.

Before cables are installed, the tree must be pruned and evaluated to assure the wood is solid enough to support the cables. Cabling has limitations, and any tree that has a defect maintains the possibility of tree failure. In addition, cables generally need to be replaced every 7-10 years.

Our chipper enables us to recycle the waste products from your trees or brush piles.

Bundles of brush and branches along with logs up to 19 inches round can be safely chipped with our high capacity brush chipper, and then either recycled or left on site for your use. Some types of wood are not suitable for mulching; we will advise you how your chips can be used if you choose to keep them. If we haul them away, you can be assured they will be used either for landscaping purposes or as boiler feed for local paper mills.

Tree Preservation Consulting

Is your tree dying? Can it be saved?

If you have questions about the health of your trees, give us a call. We will use our 30 years of experience and continuing education to assess the health of your tree, and give you some alternatives.

Clearing an area for a septic tank or garage? Call us to be part of your pre-construction planning. Trees can be damaged or killed during the building or digging process, and we try to prevent that from happening. Call us and we will recommend which trees should be removed, and which ones can be saved.

We now offer snowplowing for residential and commercial properties with the option for de-icing with sand/salt.

Free On-site Estimates

We are happy to schedule a free on-site estimate.

We will not charge more than our estimate unless you, the customer, requests additional work.

We can give several estimates, based on your wishes:

  • We can completely remove all debris either by chipping or use of the loader truck and/or skidsteer, or, if you prefer, you can do the cleanup.
  • There are also options for stump grinding, ranging from customer clean-up to having our crew remove the chips, replace with topsoil, and reseed.
  • We can move the logs to another area on your property, cut the wood into firewood, leave the chips for you to utilize - it's up to you.
In accordance with the International Society of Arboriculture's Code of Ethics for Arborists, we "will not reduce a quoted fee for a specific job if informed of a lesser fee by another arborist for the same job." In other words, we will not ask you the bid of another tree service, and then underbid them.

A 50% down payment is required along with a signed contract to begin work. Balance is due 30 days after the invoice date. Payment by check, credit card, and or cash is acceptable.  Accepted credit cards are: Visa, Discover and MasterCard
